LibrarySelfie Spotlight: Amu Mawutoh

  • Across Africa

Amu Mawutoh, a creative entrepreneur, writer, and educationist from Ghana, had always been passionate about his community. But it was his participation in the LibrarySelfie 2021 challenge that opened a new chapter in his personal reading journey and his commitment to building a reading culture around him.

Remarkably, it was the first social media challenge he had ever entered. When the notification came that he had emerged as one of the winners in Ghana, his joy was immediate and genuine. Though he did not take first place, the feeling of recognition was, in his own words, like walking on clouds.

The impact on his daily habits was real and lasting. Amu committed himself to reading at least one book every month, began lending books from his personal collection to friends and community members, and started using social media to share his reads and spark literary conversations. He has since made plans to host book club gatherings where followers can meet, discuss, and learn together. His story is a vivid example of how a single well-timed initiative can spark a community-wide movement.
