YALLF 2022 Spotlight: Aina Sakaria’s Digital Skills Project
Aina Sakaria, a 2022 fellow of the Young African Library Leaders Fellowship from Namibia, channelled her passion for information science into a project that addressed one of the most pressing gaps in her community: the lack of basic digital skills.
Recognising that digital independence is a fundamental right, Aina developed and implemented a Community Computer Literacy Program, working collaboratively with community members to ensure the training was practical and accessible. The program focused on foundational skills ranging from basic computer operations to essential online tasks such as submitting job applications, helping participants take meaningful steps toward digital independence.
Aina's project reflects the heart of the YALLF mission. She identified a need, created a tailored solution, partnered with her community, and delivered lasting change. As she looks ahead, she continues to seek ways to scale the program and reach more people who deserve the tools to thrive in a connected world.
