Library Internet Governance Ambassadors Program
Host: Dr. Benedicta Uchendu
Country: Nigeria
Digital librarianship is here, and Dr. Benedicta Uchendu is giving 30 young librarians at Ignatius Ajuru University Library a firsthand experience of its possibilities.
To wrap up the Library Internet Governance Ambassadors Program, Dr. Benedicta Uchendu from Nigeria, led a one-day workshop for 30 young librarians at the Ignatius Ajuru University Library, Port Harcourt, on Friday, 9th December 2025 as her capstone project on the program.
The session was fully practical where participants explored how to use search engines and academic databases, accessed e-libraries, and learned how to navigate the OPAC system. They also learned essential digital productivity skills using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office which are essential for modern library work.
For these librarians, the workshop was a sneak peek into modern-day librarianship and the future of work. Dr. Benedicta is passionate about exposing young librarians to the digital potentials and possibilities in librarianship today, helping them see how technology can transform their work and the libraries they serve.
Access to information is critical in internet governance, making it even more important for library professionals to be skilled in finding, evaluating, and using information online. By working on the internet, librarians provide support to young people and communities to access information, learning resources, and digital opportunities. This in turn contributes to the development of literacy and digital skills and the promotion of knowledge access in African communities.
