Technology is changing the way we live, work, and deliver services. The last time I visited a hospital, I did not need to carry physical cards or watch nurses move files between desks like they did a few years ago. Across healthcare, transportation, music, fashion, and textiles, we see innovation and creativity changing how services are delivered. The library ecosystem in Africa deserves the same innovation.
Libraries across Africa are doing meaningful work in their communities, from promoting digital literacy to creating programs that support learning and access to information. However, one challenge has remained consistent over the years: access to funding and resources needed to turn ideas into fully implemented projects.
Research has shown a clear gap between traditional library education and the LibraryTech skills librarians need today. While library schools provide strong foundations, many librarians are not fully prepared for the technological demands of modern library services.
