Impact & Insights Officer
The Impact & Insights Officer will work on the organisation's approach to monitoring, evaluation, data, evidence, learning and impact measurement. The role will ensure that Library Aid Africa consistently captures meaningful data, generates actionable insights, measures program outcomes and uses evidence to improve programs, inform strategy and demonstrate impact to partners, funders and communities. The ideal candidate is analytical, curious and comfortable working across programs, research, communications and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Impact Measurement & Monitoring
- Develop and maintain monitoring and impact measurement frameworks for Library Aid Africa's programs.
- Define program indicators, targets, outcomes and measurement approaches.
- Track program performance against agreed objectives and KPIs.
- Develop appropriate tools for collecting program and participant data.
- Conduct routine monitoring of program implementation and results.
- Identify performance gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.
Evaluation & Research
- Support the design and implementation of baseline, midline and endline assessments.
- Conduct program evaluations, surveys, interviews, focus groups and other research activities.
- Analyse qualitative and quantitative data to assess program effectiveness and outcomes.
- Generate evidence on changes experienced by librarians, libraries, institutions and communities.
- Support research studies and impact assessments across Library Aid Africa's programs.
Data & Insights
- Establish and maintain reliable program data systems and databases.
- Ensure data is accurate, complete, consistent and appropriately managed.
- Analyse program and organisational data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities.
- Develop dashboards, reports and visualisations that make data easy to understand.
- Translate data and evidence into clear, actionable insights for program teams and leadership.
Learning & program Improvement
- Facilitate program reflection and learning sessions.
- Document lessons learned, emerging practices, successes and challenges.
- Conduct after-action reviews and support teams to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop learning briefs and evidence-based recommendations.
- Promote a culture of learning, experimentation and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Accountability & Feedback
- Establish mechanisms for collecting feedback from program participants, partners and communities.
- Monitor participant satisfaction and engagement.
- Analyse feedback and identify recurring issues or opportunities.
- Work with program teams to ensure feedback informs program design and implementation.
Impact Reporting & Evidence
- Produce regular impact and performance reports for management, partners and funders.
- Provide evidence and data for grant proposals, donor reports, annual reports and organisational communications.
- Develop impact stories supported by credible evidence and data.
- Maintain an up-to-date repository of organisational impact data and evidence.
- Support the organisation in communicating its impact clearly and credibly.
Organisational Performance
- Support the development and tracking of organisational KPIs.
- Contribute to quarterly and annual organisational performance reviews.
- Provide data and insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to improve organisational systems, programs and resource allocation through evidence.

Experience & Skills
- 2–4 years of relevant professional experience in monitoring and evaluation, research, data analysis, program performance, impact measurement, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing monitoring and impact measurement systems, including indicators, KPIs, data collection tools, and reporting frameworks.
- Experience collecting, managing, analysing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data to assess program performance and outcomes.
- Experience conducting surveys, assessments, program reviews, evaluations, or impact studies.
- Strong ability to translate data and evidence into clear, actionable insights that support program and organisational decision-making.
- Experience developing dashboards, performance reports, impact reports, learning briefs, and evidence-based recommendations.
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Looker Studio.
- Experience using digital data collection and management platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar tools.
- Good understanding of Results-Based Management, Theory of Change, Logical Frameworks, or similar program management approaches.
- Strong analytical, research, report-writing, data visualisation, and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to maintain data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
- Experience working with nonprofit, development, social impact, or community-focused organisations is an advantage.
- Experience working across multiple programs, locations, or countries is an advantage.
